Police Officer
The City of Renton is hiring for a Police Officer position. This role involves general duty police work including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, prevention and investigation of crimes, and maintenance of order. Officers engage positively with community members and work independently and as part of a team.
Salary information includes a starting monthly salary of $8,141 for Patrol Officer I, with promotion to Patrol Officer II upon entering the FTO program. The Patrol Officer II salary range is $8,649 to $10,674 per month. Entry level officers are eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus. There are also education premiums for associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. The city contributes towards deferred compensation, health reimbursement, and interpreter premiums. Officers are also issued a take home vehicle after completing FTO.
The job requires a high school diploma or GED, lawful permanent residency, a valid Washington State driver's license, and the ability to pass stringent background checks including a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and driving record check. Officers must qualify for the ACCESS Certification and complete the Washington State Criminal Justice Basic Law Enforcement Training Course. They must also pass the Law Enforcement Officer written exam and Physical Ability Test with Public Safety Testing.
Competency requirements include commitment to equity issues, knowledge of judicial procedures, investigation techniques, criminal case preparation, effective decision-making, maintaining control in stressful situations, enforcing laws with professionalism, determining appropriate police responses, and effective communication.
Physical demands involve driving, vigorous physical activity, lifting, climbing, running, and extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, and stretching.
