Plumbing ApprenticePrimary Purpose: Under general supervision assist the Supervisor, Lead and assigned journeyman in completing Apprentice level work in the installation, repair, remodel, and maintenance of buildings as related to the Plumbing trade.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Maintain, repair, and install plumbing and related systems and components as assignedConform to industry and shop standards of safetyPromptly report accidents on the job to the Supervisor and/or officeSupport Board and Administrative policies and decisionsWork with and become knowledgeable in related systems such as irrigation, gas distribution, hydraulic systems, and componentsWork with iPads and other technology items, tools, and programs as part of work in the Plumbing ShopReport facility discrepancies and problems as needed for repair in a timely mannerCoordinate as needed with campuses to assure maintenance work does not interfere with school activities or schedulesRespond to emergency call outs after hours as requiredFollow up with Supervisor or Maintenance Directors on work doneAssist Shop Supervisors and Journeyman in coordination work to be done by outside vendors or contractorsAlways keep all equipment and tools clean and in good condition for useKeep all work areas cleanProcess completed work orders and/or reports as needed and order materials to complete work assignedCommunicate effectively to eliminate any problems, surprises, or misunderstandingsReport vandalisms or emergency problems immediately to Directors/Supervisors and appropriate Administrative personnelAll other duties assigned in a spirit of teamwork and cooperationJob Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalencyHold a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain a good driving recordPursue professional growth activities to continue development in the Plumbing tradeMust be willing to gain knowledge of codes and standards pertaining to the installation of Plumbing systemsOne to two years' experience under a Master Plumber and one to two years' experience in commercial plumbing work desired but not requiredContinue to learn and develop towards valid Journey Plumbing LicenseSelf-starter, high initiative and require little supervisionMust be punctual, dependable, honest and of good moral characterProfessional attitude always and have excellent communication skills and work well with othersNeat, clean cut and present a professional appearanceMust maintain confidentiality on department procedures and operationsMust be able to climb a ladder without limitations and be familiar with other electrical equipment and toolsAbility to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer's manualsWorking Conditions:Work with frequent interruptionsFrequent standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of timeAssembling and moving ladders, scaffolding, trailers, compressors, etc.Lifting and carrying up to 75 poundsMay be required to wear a respirator and pass appropriate pulmonary physicalExposure to noise and communicable diseasesExtreme cold/heatExposure to wet and humid conditionsWork in confined spacesExposure to legal limits of pesticides and herbicidesExposure to odors and gasesTolerate exposure to gases and other outside environmentsWage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: Auxiliary - 2The Abilene ISD does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, military status, or any other basis prohibited by law.
