Plumbing Laborer
The Plumbing Laborer supports the plumbing crew on commercial, multifamily, and institutional construction projects. This entry-to-mid-level field position assists journeyman and apprentice plumbers with material handling, site preparation, trench support, tool staging, and general labor tasks. The Plumbing Laborer is a vital part of the field team and an opportunity to grow within the trade.
Key Responsibilities Include: (But not limited to the following)
Field Support & Assistance
- Assist plumbers with installation of pipes, fittings, fixtures, and drainage systems.
- Carry, stage, and organize materials, tools, and equipment at the job site.
- Prepare work areas including trenching, backfilling, and ground clearing as directed.
- Load and unload deliveries; verify materials against packing slips.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA, company, and project-specific safety rules at all times.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure worksite is clean and hazard-free.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Site Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the job site, staging areas, and material storage.
- Dispose of debris and waste materials in accordance with project protocols.
- Assist with tool cleaning, maintenance, and inventory.
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with foreman and crew members to support daily workflow.
- Report any safety concerns, material shortages, or site hazards to the foreman promptly.
- Support other trades as directed by the superintendent or project management.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; not required.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Valid California driver's license preferred.
Experience
- 0–2 years of construction, labor, or trades-related experience preferred.
- Prior experience in plumbing, mechanical, or underground utility work is a plus.
Skills
- Ability to read and follow basic safety signage and instructions.
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor in varying weather and outdoor conditions.
- Team-oriented with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn the plumbing trade.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools used in construction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated areas.
- Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, and varying site conditions.
- Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching required.
