PLUMBER

Performs the full range of plumbing duties, which involve installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment. Duties and responsibilities include receiving blueprints for new projects, preparing sketch layouts of material breakdown and fixtures, ensuring adherence to federal and local plumbing codes, excavating worksites, assembling materials, installing, modifying, and repairing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment, locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing hangers, determining and installing valves, traps, and unions, completing the routing and placement of systems, preparing material, parts, labor cost estimates, maintaining adequate supply of required parts and materials, preparing appropriate purchasing documents, ensuring maintenance repair orders and other forms are approved, expediting completed maintenance repair orders and maintenance forms, performing preventative maintenance on all equipment fixtures, ensuring safety and fire rules are followed, cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Physical efforts include making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, working in hard-to-reach places, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and frequently lifting, carrying, and setting up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Working conditions include performing work inside and outside, usually in dirty, dusty, and greasy environments, sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather, occasionally making repairs in areas with bad smelling fumes, having occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones, and frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections.

General experience includes one year of experience that provided knowledge and ability to perform basic plumbing work such as repairing, modifying, or installing water utility supply and disposal equipment. Substitution of education for experience includes one year of high school education may be substituted for three months of general experience up to a high school diploma or GED for one year of general experience. Specialized experience includes five years of experience performing a full range of plumbing work including installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment, working from blueprints for new projects, preparing sketch layouts of material breakdown and fixtures, performing plumbing work in conformance with federal and local plumbing codes.
