Job Position: Plumber Apprentice
Location: Slidell, LA 70458
Pay Rate: $20.00 to $22.00/hr
Unite Contracting is seeking Apprentice Commercial Plumbers to assist licensed plumbers with installing, repairing, and maintaining large-scale plumbing systems in commercial buildings (e.g., offices, hospitals). Responsibilities include cutting/assembling pipes, installing fixtures, reading blueprints, and ensuring code compliance, while learning under supervision. Requires a high school diploma, physical stamina, and a strong desire to learn the trade.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Installation & Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, and fixtures (e.g., toilets, sinks, water heaters) in accordance with blueprints and building codes.
System Rough-in: Assist with installing drainage, waste, vent, and supply lines during construction phases.
Job Site Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site by clearing debris and keeping tools in good condition.
Troubleshooting: Help locate, identify, and repair leaks or clogs.
Material Handling: Transport, cut, and prepare materials such as PVC, copper, or steel piping.
Documentation: Assist in tracking inventory and completing work reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Previous construction or plumbing experience is preferred but not required.
Skills: Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and work in uncomfortable positions.
Attributes: Strong willingness to learn, ability to follow strict safety protocols, and good communication skills.
Licensing: A valid driver's license is required for commuting to various job sites.
Typical Workday
Apprentices Commercial Plumbers follow a construction timeline, alternating between "rough-in"work (installing pipes before walls go up) and "finish"work (installing fixtures after drywall is complete). They often work directly under a Journeyman or Master Plumber, performing tasks assigned based on skill level.
