Platform Engineer

Hybrid Full Time Staffing and Recruiting

About the Opportunity

A well-established national manufacturer is growing its infrastructure team. After several acquisitions, the company’s server footprint has roughly doubled, and it needs a hands-on engineer to help bring a mix of inherited environments under one standard. This is a working engineer role, not a management or pure architecture seat. You’ll build, fix, and improve the systems yourself.

What You’ll Do

  • Run and maintain core Windows and Linux services: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file and print
  • Support on-prem, virtualized, and cloud environments end to end: builds, patching, upgrades, monitoring, security, and cost control
  • Manage AWS resources across compute, storage, databases, monitoring, and security
  • Maintain and harden VMware environments, including troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Automate repeatable work with PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools
  • Build scripts, reports, and integrations that cut manual effort
  • Own backup, recovery, and DR testing for assigned systems, aligned to RTO/RPO targets
  • Write and maintain runbooks, standards, and technical documentation
  • Assess legacy systems, plan consolidations and migrations, and help decommission what’s no longer needed
  • Give input on lifecycle planning, hardware refreshes, and infrastructure budgets
  • Work within ITIL change, incident, and problem processes
  • Partner with vendors, security, network, and application teams on projects and issues
  • Take part in a light on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance windows

What You Bring

  • 5+ years in server administration, infrastructure engineering, or cloud engineering (server side, not desktop or endpoint)
  • Solid hands-on Windows Server and Linux experience in multi-site environments
  • Experience running VMware or a comparable virtualization platform
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or another public cloud
  • Scripting or automation skills in PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar
  • Working knowledge of patching, monitoring, backup, DR, hardening, and lifecycle management
  • Comfort pushing back on requirements and proposing better solutions
  • Clear communication and strong documentation habits
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

  • Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet, SaltStack, or other IaC and config management tools
  • Hybrid environments spanning on-prem and cloud
  • Azure, Nutanix, or AIX exposure
  • Cloud migration or platform consolidation projects
  • Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps, Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, or Red Hat
