Position Summary
The Plant Controller is responsible for maintaining the integrity of plant financial information, managing manufacturing accounting processes, analyzing costs and variances, supporting inventory accuracy, and partnering with operations to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Perform general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close responsibilities.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports.
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Support financial reporting requirements and audit activities.
- Analyze financial results and communicate key findings to leadership.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
Manufacturing Cost Accounting
- Perform manufacturing cost analysis and provide financial insights related to plant performance.
- Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs.
- Monitor manufacturing variances and identify opportunities for cost improvement.
- Support product costing activities and evaluate production cost impacts.
- Partner with department teams to improve financial performance.
Inventory Management & Controls
- Maintain accurate inventory accounting and reporting.
- Support inventory assembly build and ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Analyze inventory transactions, usage, adjustments, and variances.
- Manage excess and obsolete inventory reserve analysis.
- Organize, coordinate, and monitor cycle count activities.
- Partner with Operations and Warehouse teams to improve inventory accuracy.
- Review inventory valuation and identify discrepancies requiring investigation.
Milk Accounting & Dairy-Specific Accounting Responsibilities
- Perform milk accounting activities, including reconciliation and reporting requirements.
- Analyze milk costs and related financial impacts.
- Maintain accurate accounting records associated with dairy operations.
- Support operational teams with financial analysis related to milk procurement and production.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing accounting experience required.
- Experience with inventory accounting and cost analysis.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting.
- Experience with month-end close processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills.
Preferred
- Food manufacturing or dairy industry experience.
- Experience with manufacturing ERP systems. NetSuite preferred.
- Experience with standard costing.
- Experience with inventory controls and cycle count processes.
