THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR BOTH PLANS EXAMINER TRAINEE AND PLANS EXAMINER

PLANS EXAMINER TRAINEE GRADE 6 MINIMUM $36,157.00 JOB SUMMARY Under close supervision, assist the Building Safety Department (BSD) with basic administrative and technical functions and perform work of entry-level review of permit applications, calculating and collecting related fees, data entry, routing and tracking plans and permits, and performing plan reviews at an entry-level.

PLANS EXAMINER GRADE 8 MINIMUM $42,564.00 JOB SUMMARY Perform technical plan review of construction documents for residential and commercial structures. Examine commercial and residential building plans to assure compliance with building and safety codes, interpret building and safety codes and Building Safety Department (BSD) policy objectives, and provide assistance to the public with building code and permitting questions under general supervision.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF PLANS EXAMINER TRAINEE:

  • Perform basic administrative and technical support functions for BSD staff, assist inspectors on projects, assist in coordinating inspection activities, and assist with research duties and documentation.
  • Answer general and basic questions on building codes, permitting, and fees for the construction of residential and commercial projects.
  • Coordinate records management of permitting, inspection files and records, and prepare various data reports.
  • Assist in interpreting maps and plats and complete zoning site plan review for compliance with setback requirements at a basic level.
  • Assist in the review plans and permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with administrative procedures.
  • Input permit information, process paperwork, compile data on BSD activities, and generate summary reports.
  • Interpret building and zoning codes to perform reviews of moderate difficulty for small plan review of swimming pools, spas, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and site plan review for standard permits.
  • Assist in running expired permit report and research and process expired permit notifications to permit holders.
  • Perform basic support functions for Pinal County BSD staff, dispatch inspectors, and assist with record-keeping.
  • To promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK AS A PLANS EXAMINER TRAINEE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of customer service and/or administrative computer experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A PLANS EXAMINER TRAINEE:

  • International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician certification is required in order to advance to a Plans Examiner.
  • newly established Arizona Residents must have one

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK AS A PLANS EXAMINER:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of plans examination experience OR one (1) year experience as a Plans Examiner Trainee.
  • International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician certification upon hire.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A PLANS EXAMINER:

  • Obtain one (1) additional International Code Council certification in the following areas within one (1) year of hire date: International Residential Building Code (IRC) Residential Inspector, IRC Plans Examiner, International Building Code (IBC) Commercial Inspector or IBC Plans Examiner
  • Valid Driver's
