Shop Pipe FabricatorThis is a project-based position. The Shop Pipe Fabricator lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts. At least 5 years of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline and have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation and plan and perform work activities alone.
Must have Tier 1 Shop Fabrication Experience.Basic Qualifications:Must successfully pass the written Pipe Fabrication test and spool reading assessment.Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated parts of metal products in shop according to blueprint and layout specifications, preparatory to welding or rivetingPlans sequence of operation, applying knowledge of geometry, effects of heat, and allowance for weld shrinkage, machining and thickness of metalSets up face block, jigs and fixturesLocates and marks centerlines and reference points onto floor or face block and transposes them to work piece, using tape, chains, plumb bob, and squaresMoves parts into position, manually or by hoist or craneRemoves high spots and cuts bevels, using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torch. Straightens warped or bent partsPositions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps or bolt parts in positions for welding or rivetingResponsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipmentPerforms other duties and activities as requiredAbility to read and interpret engineering drawing instructions and documents, plan and perform work activities independentlyAbility to apply shop mathematics to solve problemsCan plan work and select proper toolsHas knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular fieldRelies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the jobWorks under minimum supervision.
