Our rich diversity of people and ideas makes us a stronger, more innovative organization.Job SummaryThe Pipe Layer is responsible for assessing the ground conditions, digging trenches, assembling pipes, and laying pipes in accordance with city ordinates. You may also be required to remove old piping systems, seal joins, and install auxiliary lines.ResponsibilitiesMeasuring and configuring pipe routes.Gathering material and installation tools.Digging trenches using hand and machine trenching tools.Locating installed piping systems using magnetic or radio indicators.Removing old or broken piping systems.Laying pipes into trenches and applying pipe spacers.Checking pipe alignment and sealing pipes with cement glue.Installing auxiliary lines.Sealing exposed pipe joints and fittings.Filling and sealing pipe trenches.Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.QualificationsMinimum High school diploma or GED. Proven work experience as a pipe layer. Detailed knowledge of construction and pipe fitting techniques. Knowledge of sewer systems, storm drains, and water mains.
Experience with machine-operated trenching tools. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and city maps. Excellent physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy objects. Good communication skills. Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions. Preferred 3 or more years of experience as a pipe layer.
Experience in water line construction and/or water utility industries. Spanish/bi-lingualPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination.
