Pilot Plant Operator / Decommissioning TechnicianThis role supports the decommissioning and teardown of pilot plants, including rigging activities where applicable. Following decommissioning, the position transitions into a Pilot Plant Operator role responsible for all operational aspects of the plant during assigned shifts. This includes ensuring safe, efficient startup, operation, and shutdown of chemical plant equipment from the control room, as well as supporting field operations.Key ResponsibilitiesDecommissioning PhaseAssist with decommissioning and teardown of pilot plantsPerform rigging activities (preferred experience)Operations PhaseOperate and monitor pilot plant systems from the control roomEnsure safe and efficient startup, operation, and shutdown of plant equipmentOversee personnel, equipment, and safety during assigned shiftsDirect Field Operators during startup, operation, shutdown, and abnormal situationsMonitor and record plant operating parameters; make adjustments as neededDetect faulty equipment, diagnose issues, and take corrective actionMonitor air and water emissions and maintain within acceptable limitsNotify shift advisor or plant management of abnormal conditions immediatelyProvide regular status reports to shift supervisor and/or plant managementEnsure thorough shift turnover, including review of logs and operating conditionsMaintenance & SafetyPerform equipment isolation in accordance with lockout/tagout proceduresOpen, lock, and tag equipment for maintenance activitiesConduct tests on critical safety systems as directedIdentify, troubleshoot, and correct potential operational or safety issuesMaintain a clean and orderly work areaParticipate in safety meetings, training, and scheduled activitiesAssist in training site staffPerform minor maintenance during scheduled and unscheduled outagesGeneral DutiesSupport plant improvement projects and third-party activitiesSafely operate a vehicle on site as requiredPerform other duties as assigned by shift supervisor or plant managementRequired Education, Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesHigh school diploma or equivalent5+ years of industry experienceKnowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipmentDemonstrated understanding of chemical or process demonstration unit operationsAbility to make sound decisions in emergency situationsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to follow policies, procedures, and instructionsKnowledge of equipment isolation and tagging proceduresThorough understanding of plant safety equipment and its proper useStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent teamwork, leadership, and organizational skillsExperience operating a process demonstration unit preferredBasic computer skills (Excel and Word)Work ScheduleStandard hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PMMust be available for shift work (24/7 operations)Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentWork performed in lab, plant, or high-bay environmentsRequires standing, walking, climbing stairs and laddersWork performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditionsWorksites span approximately 1,500 acres; walking between locations requiredMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted or assistedMust wear steel-toe shoesAdditional RequirementsMust submit to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checkPosition is classified as safety-sensitiveDress code: collared shirt and jeansJoin the Cross Resource Group Team!At Cross Resource Group, we value our employees and are dedicated to providing a rewarding and inclusive work environment.
