Location: Nyack, New York.

Schedule: Day shifts; days vary; hours vary.

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant will perform surgical and medical care duties under a Physician's supervision, including assisting in surgeries, rounding on admitted patients, writing orders, notes, consults, counseling patients and families, and managing all aspects of inpatient medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in surgeries and other invasive procedures.
  • Perform patient rounds, record findings, and develop treatment plans.
  • Write orders, progress notes, consults for surgical patients.
  • Provide counseling to patients and families.
  • Manage all aspects of inpatient medical care, ensuring high‑quality outcomes.
  • Consult with physicians for complex cases beyond PA scope.
  • Attend multidisciplinary rounds and document patient information in the medical record.
  • Maintain confidentiality and departmental statistical databases for research and quality improvement.
  • Execute multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
  • Train and support staff in customer‑service skills and proper use of electronic health records.

Essential Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Two to three years of experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • ACLS certification required.
  • DEA Controlled Substance Registration required if prescribing medication is part of clinical duties.
  • NYS licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Experience with EPIC preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in surgical assistance, inpatient rounds, order entry, and consult documentation.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality patient care.
  • Skill in educating patients, families, and staff in a user‑friendly manner.
  • Manual dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, full range of motion.
  • Conduct physical examinations, assess health status, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medication within PA scope.
  • Comfort in consulting physicians for cases beyond scope and referring appropriately.
  • Document medical records with confidentiality and thoroughness; participate in departmental statistics for research and quality improvement.
  • Handle multiple concurrent tasks, maintain priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving ability and proficiency with basic computer applications, including electronic health records.

  • Detail oriented and flexible with working hours to accommodate patient, physician, and management needs.
  • Excellent customer‑service skills with ability to train and manage staff.
  • Positive, cooperative, and respectful demeanor toward patients, co‑workers, and management.
