Position Highlights

The Department of Dermatology, in partnership with the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) and the UACC Skin Cancer Institute (SCI), invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The role is focused on Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer research. Successful candidates will contribute to research, education, and leadership at the Department of Dermatology, UACC, and SCI, with a primary academic and clinical home in Dermatology. The successful applicant will devote 75‑80% of time to academic/research responsibilities and the remainder to clinical duties. The candidate must hold an MD, MD/PhD, or DO, be board-certified in dermatology, and be eligible for licensure in Arizona. The role requires postdoctoral experience, an established NIH‑funded research program, extramural funding acquisition, graduate student mentoring, and teaching of graduate and medical students. The position calls for interaction with faculty on larger collaborative scientific projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an NIH‑funded research program focused on Non‑Melanoma Skin Cancer.
  • Produce strong peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Provide instruction in professional and graduate degree programs.
  • Lead or contribute to interdisciplinary “team science” research grants/projects.
  • Provide dermatological clinical outpatient services.
  • Provide teaching service to students, residents and/or fellows as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service‑oriented, team‑based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.
  • Demonstrated research experience and interest.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
  • Demonstrated track record of distinction in teaching, clinical care, and/or research in an academic department of medicine or equivalent environment.
  • Successful track record of working with trainees and students.
  • Hold current or pending federal research support.
  • Record of impactful publications and federal funding commensurate with career stage.
  • If the individual selected for employment does NOT currently hold a faculty title with the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Tucson, they will be required to obtain faculty status, including obtaining letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate College review committee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the development and successful implementation of new academic (educational, patient care, research) programs and services.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in a major subspecialty division/section at an NIH‑funded department of internal medicine.
  • Established and continuing independent NIH‑funded sponsored research portfolio and/or evidence of scientific research, including peer‑reviewed articles and extramural funding.
  • Clinical and research experience in immunobiology of the skin and its relationship to inflammatory skin disorders.
  • Research that advances the understanding of roles of signaling pathways in immune responses, carcinogenesis, and pigmentation, interactions between immune cells and the cutaneous microenvironment, or anti‑inflammatory agents.
