Physician Duties

Duties for the Physician include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Reviewing individual results and rendering qualification determinations (e.g. fitness for duty as a compliance officer).
• Applying epidemiologic principles, clinical and toxicologic information, and information and data management expertise to questions affecting worker safety and health.
• Providing assistance in the development, review and analysis of policies, guidelines, compliance procedures, and other documents requiring medical expertise.
• Representing the agency at hearings and other legal proceedings that may require medical expertise concerning occupationally related illnesses and injuries.
• Developing informal or formal written responses to field consult requests for support, and documenting opinions using medical and scientific knowledge.
• Preparing and delivering testimony in support of OSHA enforcement actions before Administrative Law Judges of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Review Commission as needed.
