Summary

The Sheridan VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for an Intermittent Physician who will travel to our respective outpatient clinics in Sheridan, Casper, Gillette, and Cody, Wyoming to provide Primary Care to our Veterans. The position will not exceed three years and will be reevaluated after that period; willingness to travel to CBOC's around the state on a PRN basis is required.

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
  • Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
  • Current full and unrestricted state license to practice medicine or surgery.
  • Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.   • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under intermittent status. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and will perform duties under supervision.

  • Physical requirements: Must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to self or others, including moderate lifting (15–44 pounds) and visual, auditory, and manual dexterity adequate for the role.

Duties

  • Provide specialized treatment, comprehensive assessments, and diagnosis of complex physical and mental illness for outpatients in a clinical setting.
  • Maintain board certification (if applicable) and keep CME requirements current; may participate in resident/student training.
  • Demonstrate patient‑family centered care, respectful, articulate, courteous communication with a diverse patient population.
  • Participate in peer reviews and committees while exhibiting professional cooperation and considerate communication with staff.
  • Adapt to stressful situations, adjust priorities based on patient needs, and manage occasional patients with delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
  • Provide accurate, timely electronic medical record entries in appropriate tone and content.
  • Travel to Sheridan, Casper, Gillette, and Cody, Wyoming to provide Primary Care coverage on intermittent schedules as assigned.
  • Provide cross‑cover coverage for other medical providers as needed across the four Wyoming VA clinics.
  • Manage comprehensive medical care for a panel of Veterans enrolled in Primary Care.
  • Maintain licensure and certifications required for credentials and privileges.
  • Work Schedule: Intermittent schedule covering all four clinics with standard clinic hours of 08:00‑16:30.
