Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
- United States citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
- Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent from a VA‑approved school in the year of completion.
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis under specific conditions.

Duties
- Provide primary care within a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) as the Physician Primary Care Provider at the Childersburg VA Clinic.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including health history, physical examinations, diagnosis work‑up, patient education, and both scheduled and unscheduled appointments.
- Maintain an active role in the assigned multidisciplinary health care team, promoting preventive health measures and managing acute and chronic conditions of assigned patients.
- Participate in standard tours of duty, clinic hours (typically Monday through Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm), and provide telework opportunities. After‑hours call and rounding for hospitalized patients are not required.
- Adhere to the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP) eligibility and requirements if applicable.
- Receive competitive salary with annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, and benefits including 50–55 days paid time off per year, traditional federal pension (vested after 5 years), federal 401(k) with up to 5% employer contribution, and federal health, vision, dental, life, and long‑term care insurance (many can be carried into retirement).
