Medical Oncology Medical Director – Hoyt-Hunter Center for Oncology Care

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member hospital of Dartmouth Health (DH), in collaboration with Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC), seeks an experienced physician leader to serve as Medical Oncology Medical Director. The Medical Director will provide oversight and leadership of Hematology and Medical Oncology care at the SVMC Cancer Center. This full‑time position involves a 70/30 split between direct patient care and administrative activities.

The Medical Director will collaborate with the SVMC Administrative Director for Oncology Services and Business Operations, the Nurse Manager and other key administrative and nursing personnel at SVMC. This position reports directly to the SVMC Chief Medical Officer and has a matrix reporting relationship to the Dartmouth Cancer Center Section Chief of Medical Oncology.

  • Primary clinical leader for SVMC Hematology and Medical Oncology
  • Provides clinical oversight to ensure efficient and effective clinical operations at the SVMC Cancer Center
  • Participates in and advocates for the development and implementation of new medical strategic initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with national accreditations
  • Advocates for and demonstrates success in enrolling patients in clinical trials and assists in developing an expanded clinical research program
  • Participates in the organization of clinical information systems to improve patient safety and enhance care delivery
  • Works collaboratively with other departments, Section Chiefs and clinical and administrative leadership to improve integrated care delivery across the organization
  • Actively participates in SVMC leadership meetings, monthly Hematology and Medical Oncology faculty meetings and other local meetings
  • Evaluates scheduling needs and oversees provider schedule template management to ensure optimal patient access
  • Leads provider recruitment activities
  • Participates in budgeting and financial planning activities
  • Performs provider performance evaluations
  • Collaborates with SVMC and DH/DCC system quality leaders in QA and QI programs
  • Collaborates in defining and monitoring performance indicators for quality, patient safety and patient experience
  • Reinforces Culture of Safety and High Reliability principles and supports development of standardized policies for safety and risk mitigation
  • Acts as champion for evidence-based clinical practice

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • MD or DO Degree
  • Board Certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology
  • Minimum of five years of clinical practice and two years of clinical leadership experience
  • Current or Eligible for Medical Licensure in Vermont
  • Current or Eligible for DEA Certificate in Vermont
  • Engaged Cancer Center team that is highly invested in teamwork and optimal patient outcomes
  • Salary Range $500,000 - $510,000; comprehensive benefits through Dartmouth Health
  • Sign‑on bonus, retention incentives and relocation stipend may be available, subject to eligibility
  • Eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PLSF) through 501(c)(3) nonprofit status
