Physician - III A (NS)This is professional medical work in providing advanced or specialized treatment services in a clinic or unit of an institution or other patient care facility of the state. Employees consistently provide outstanding staff level medical services and are frequently called upon to solve difficult medical problems and to work on special projects. Work may include the guidance and review of work performed by other staff level physicians and may infrequently require employees to fulfill the role of director of the work unit.
While work is performed with independent professional responsibility, employees are generally accountable to a non-medical or physician director of the total program.Examples of duties performed include treating all medical, psychiatric, and neurological problems of assigned patients; evaluating and interpreting related reports developed by physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other professional personnel. Compiling histories of present and past illnesses; reviewing available records; performing physical examinations; ordering laboratory and x-ray examinations. Assigning duties to subordinates; participating in the training of interns, resident physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel; reviewing completed work for general adequacy and compliance with instructions.
Examining new patients or patients with unusual conditions; determining need for and recommending special treatments. Participating in medical conferences and other staff meetings for the presentation and discussion of cases and for general staff development and improvement. Performing related duties as required, as in the case of investigating the appropriate utilization of clinical facilities for patient care.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences:Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved.Thorough knowledge of the practice and theories of the medical specialty or subspecialty to which assigned.Thorough knowledge of interpreting laboratory results (including basic x-ray interpretations and evaluation of lab results), clinical data and information relative to the patient's condition.Ability to compile clear and concise notes for patient's charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, patients, and their families, and the general public.A sign-on bonus of $20,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the Budget Approval.This position is designated mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events or other emergencies.
