Physician Lead, Faculty Development

Sutter Health Academic Affairs is seeking a part-time Physician Lead for Faculty Development based in Emeryville, CA. This unique role shapes the future of medical education across a major integrated health system by advancing educator development, academic leadership, and teaching excellence. The Physician Lead will partner with academic leaders across undergraduate and graduate medical education to drive systemwide initiatives and support clinician educators.

• Integrated health system setting
• Involves Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and the Mark and Mary Stevens School of Medicine
• Reports to the Sutter Chief Academic Officer

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for systemwide faculty development initiatives
• Support physicians and advanced practice clinicians serving as educators
• Lead the development of educator competencies, faculty standards, and leadership pathways
• Help launch and support the Sutter Health Academy of Medical Educators
• Partner with academic leaders across UME, GME, residency, fellowship, and medical school programs

Compensation

• $175/Hr. - $225/Hr.

Shift & Schedule

• Part-time
• 0.3 FTE contracted leadership position

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
• Board certification in a recognized specialty
• Eligible for unrestricted California medical licensure
• Minimum seven years of progressive experience in medical education, faculty development, physician leadership, GME, UME, or academic administration
• Demonstrated success as a clinician educator and physician leader
• Experience working within a healthcare system, academic medical center, medical school, or GME environment
• Strong collaborative leadership and relationship-building skills
• Master's degree in Medical Education, Health Professions Education, MPH, MBA, or related field (preferred)
• Experience with LCME and/or ACGME accreditation (preferred)
• Record of educational scholarship, innovation, or national engagement in medical education (preferred)
