Physician (Interventional Cardiologist)

Summary

The Interventional Cardiologist at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center is responsible for providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to veterans. This includes performing diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures, managing pre‑ and post‑procedure care, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of patient care. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the latest interventional cardiology techniques and a commitment to education and research.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Medical degree from an approved university (MD, DO, or equivalent) from a VA‑approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any US state, territory, Commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
• Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification.
• Must have proven proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred experience: work within the VA healthcare system or other large, integrated settings.
• Academic affiliation with clinical research experience.
• Physical requirements: pre‑placement and periodic physical evaluations are required for Title 38 occupations.

Duties

• Clinical Care: Perform interventional procedures such as angioplasty, stenting, and other catheter‑based treatments to address coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions.
• Provide comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations and consultations.
• Manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions for veteran patients.
• Interpret cardiac imaging studies, including echocardiograms, stress tests, and catheterizations.
• Patient Management: Oversee the care of patients before, during, and after interventional procedures; develop individualized treatment plans; collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care; provide patient and family education.
• Procedural Expertise: Maintain proficiency in the latest interventional cardiology techniques; ensure all procedures are performed in accordance with established protocols; participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Education and Training: Mentor and educate medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals; participate in continuing medical education; engage in teaching activities at the medical center and affiliated institutions.
• Research: Contribute to clinical research initiatives; participate in design, implementation, and dissemination of studies; collaborate with other researchers to promote evidence‑based practices.
• Administrative Responsibilities: Attend and participate in departmental and medical‑center meetings; contribute to policy and protocol development; maintain accurate medical records; partake in peer review and quality improvement activities.
