Summary

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) : This position qualifies for the EDRP. Eligible applicants must meet VHA policy requirements and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are set by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office after review. Former EDRP participants are ineligible.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements (summary of the job announcement)

  • United States Citizenship; non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens can be recruited.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school.
  • Active, full and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
  • Completed an ACGME or AOA‑approved residency leading to board certification (or equivalent post‑medical‑school training).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (preferred).
  • American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona.
  • Physical requirements as outlined in VA Handbook 5019/1‑Part II.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Attend and supervise the full‑time daytime hospitalist division, including teaching duties for residents, interns, and medical students.
  • Perform core Internal Medicine invasive procedures and maintain proficiency through simulation training.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with VA and SAVAHCS regulations.
  • Supervise and train residents and medical students rotating through the Hospitalist Division.
  • Maintain AHA BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Support research and clinical trials; investigators with VA Merit Review Awards may receive up to 35 % protected time.
  • Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM.
