Summary

The Cincinnati - OH VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician to work as Gastroenterologist at our facility. The primary role is to provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and to oversee the education of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students. Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program, leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residency options:
  1. ACGME or AOA accredited programs.
  2. One year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice.
  3. Non‑US residency training followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the United States.
• Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Family Practice.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Physical and mental/sensory requirements per VA Directive and Handbook 5019, including ability to stand or walk for long periods and to handle a fast‑paced environment.

Duties

• Provide clinical care in Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and oversee the education of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students.
• Serve as acting chief of the section when appropriate.
• Guide and support nurse practitioners assigned to the Medical Service.
• Supervise medical students and residents in General Medicine House Service/subspecialty clinics per the Chief of Medical Service.
• Conduct teaching rounds, lectures, conferences, and grading sessions for trainees.
• Demonstrate and train trainees in necessary medical procedures.
• Adjust work schedules to meet changing workloads and deadlines.
• Participate in facility programs such as Continuous Quality Improvement teams.
• Maintain high quality patient service and adhere to MHS performance goals.
• Follow all VHA information security and privacy measures.
• Hold approved clinical privileges and complete required training.
• Collaboration with other health professionals, staff, and management for patient care delivery.
• Participate in peer review processes when requested.
• Systematically evaluate patient care programs across Medicine venues.
• Diagnose and treat seriously ill patients during clinical assignments.
• Complete medical record documentation and trainee supervision attestations within prescribed timeframes.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age‑specific patient requirements.
• Assess veterans using advanced clinical judgment and physical assessment skills.
• Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm or 7:30 am–4:00 pm.
