JOB SUMMARY:The physician studies, diagnoses and treats illness, injuries and other ailments. They have knowledge of medical ethics, human anatomy, pharmacology and other specialties depending on their field. Physicians provide preventative care, detect developing health problems and give advice to help patients develop healthy habits.RESPONSIBILITES:Greets patient in a friendly and professional manner at all times.Generates new patient visits. New patient visit is defined as a patient that has not been seen at MPHC in the last three years. The billing code for a new patient is .Returns calls directed to the MD/DO in a timely manner (same business day if before 3pm; before close of next business day if after 3pm) and in a courteous fashion.Reads, and if necessary responds, to e-mail messages. All providers are responsible for reading e-mails directed to them.Effectively diagnoses and treats patients. Periodic reviews, conducted by the medical director, will determine if MD/DO is following the best practices and protocols for a given ailment or disease as defined by the American Medical Association.Orders procedures necessary for a complete diagnosis including laboratory test(s), audiometry, EKGs, spirometry, x-ray, etc. that are available and appropriate for the ailment or disease. Available is defined as either accessible within the clinic or by referral.Develops necessary treatment plan(s) as dictated by the disease type and condition/ability of the patient (i.e. are treatment plans being developed for disease conditions such as asthma, hypertension, diabetes, etc).Orders the scheduling of follow-up appointments, referrals, tests, etc. as necessary and appropriate.Effectively oversees clinic staff through oversight and direction. This includes ability to train, develop, and positively motivate others including students, support staff, patients, and peers.Actively supports MPHC’s missions, goals, and strategic initiatives/objectives.Provides after hours coverage as scheduled. This includes documenting all calls as appropriate, why the patient called, and the action plan necessary for the patient. All information regarding the treatment of the patient or any referrals made must be documented in MPHC’s EMR system the next business day.Appropriately disposes of medical/biohazardous waste in the correct container. Follows strict universal precautions and uses correct aseptic technique when danger to exposure to blood or other body fluid is present.Maintains after hours call equipment (i.e. cell phone, chargers, call book). If you lose or damage the cell phone you are responsible for its replacement.Initiates follow-up with patients by telephone and/or written correspondence to improve and ensure continuous quality medical care.Keeps medical records updated in accordance with state and federal guidelines (i.e. all patient records should be documented in the file within 24-48 hours after time of visit).Friendly and courteous to MPHC staff at all times.Provides appropriate coding of procedures and office visits based on the types of services performed and the level of care provided. All coding must match the level of documentation entered into the MPHC EMR system and the level of care provided. Audits will be conducted for each provider on an ongoing basis to ensure correct coding. Both under coding and over coding are considered fraudulent practices by MPHC as well as federal and state agencies.Works to ensure the clinic sees a minimum of 21 patient visits per eight (8) hour workday. The standard for all MPHC providers is 4,200 face-to-face encounters per year. All patient visits must be a face-to-face encounter by the provider with the patient and result in the legitimate billing of an office visit or procedure(s).Shows up to work every day as scheduled and on time.Demonstrates system knowledge and ability to successfully navigate our EMR in an efficient, effective, and timely manner.Maintains strict patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.Provides timely and informative feedback to all nurse practitioners and physician assistants working under the MD/DO.Reviews and signs off on at least 10% of all patient visits recorded by the nurse practitioners and physician assistants.Provides necessary consultation and care to MPHC patients that require home health services.Appropriate with prescribing habits (agent, volume, and refills), taking into consideration the cost/benefits.Willingness to accept constructive criticism.Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment as part of the interdisciplinary health care team with effective interactions.Demonstrates resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles and takes initiative in finding solutions and/or presenting ideas to help solve identified organizational problems.Consistently strives to meet patient scheduling objectives. Demonstrates consistent punctuality in meeting patient appointments.Appropriate participation in quality assurance program and staff/provider meetings.Adheres to all MPHC policies and procedures.
