This role includes providing full-spectrum patient care with strongcommitment to serving diverse communities and improving health outcomes for refugees through thorough medical assessment and follow-up care. Physician will provide initial medical care to the refugee health program and immigrants within 90 days of their arrival in the U.S. and continues to serve as primary care for medical care.

Responsible for maintaining high standards of professionalism, efficiency, personal communication, discretion, and independent judgment. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform all job-related activities as outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

  1. 1.Conducts initial health assessments, develops care plans, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to address the unique health needs of refugees.
  2. 2. Conduct comprehensive health assessments of patients and newly arrived refugees, including history taking, physical examinations, and necessary diagnostic tests.
  3. 3. Elicits and records information about a patient’s medical history.
  4. 4. Examines patient to determine general physical condition.
  5. 5.Identify and manage acute and chronic health conditions, providing appropriate treatment and referrals as needed.
  6. 6.Develop individualized care plans and ensure timely follow-up care.
  7. 7.Coordinate with public health officials, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to address the medical, psychological, and social needs of refugees.
  8. 8.Stay informed about current guidelines and best practices in refugee health.
  9. 9.Maintain accurate and up-to date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards and program requirements.
  10. 10.Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs.
  11. 11. Assures patient’s vaccination status is up to date.
  12. 12. Focuses on health promotion and disease prevention.
  13. 13. Assures that all routine disease screening is complete for each patient who is seen to comply with various local, state, and federal audits.
  14. 14. Reports birth, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.
  15. 15. Adheres to the policies and procedures for dispensing medications and complies with the various prescription medication formularies.
  16. 16. Performs minor office procedures as qualified.
  17. 17. Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance or disability coverage.
  18. 18. Follows up and appropriately acts on all ordered studies and referrals in a timely manner.
  19. 19. Promptly reports all suspected cases of child abuse, elder abuse, domestic violence, or homicidal ideation to the appropriate authorities.
  20. 20. Must have all documentation of a patient visit complete within 48 hours of the patient’s visit.
  21. 21. Must adhere to all privacy regulations as outlined in the policies and procedures and HIPAA guidelines.
  22. 22. Must adhere to all OSHA and sharps safety policies and procedures and immediately report any sharps injury should one occur.
  23. 23. Must complete all continuing Medical Education hours as required by the California State Medical Board and if applicable, the employee’s respective specialty board.
  24. 24. Should notify the Medical Director of schedule changes at least one month in advance.
  25. 25.Patient visits are approximately 30 minutes per intake and 15 minutes per follow-up appointment.
  26. 26.Participate in program planning, quality improvement initiatives, and community outreach activities in further development of mobile health unit.
  27. 27. Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or designee.

Qualifications:

  1. 2. Current California Medical License
  2. 4. Board Certified or Board Eligible.
  3. 5. Minimum of five (5) years of general practice experience in FQHC facility.
  4. 6.Patient load of twenty per day.
  5. 7.Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Preferred:

  1. 1.Experience working with refugee population and underserved communities.
  2. 2.Experience serving a multinational, multicultural population.
  3. 3.Proficiency in ECW electronic health record (EHR) system.
