The School of Sciences at SUNY Oneonta is seeking a Physician Assistant Program Director to lead the development and implementation of its new Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) program.

This role offers a primarily academic work environment with clinical and community engagement. The responsibilities are approximately 50% administrative and leadership, 30% teaching and service, and 20% clinical practice. It is a 12‑month appointment with occasional travel required for conferences, clinical site development, accreditation activities, and extended hours during key periods.

Program Leadership and Administration

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the PA program.
  • Supervise faculty, staff, and the medical director.
  • Oversee program operations, budgeting, and alignment with institutional goals.

Curriculum Development and Assessment

  • Develop and implement a rigorous, innovative, outcomes‑based curriculum.
  • Integrate simulation and interprofessional education.
  • Establish policies for admissions, progression, and graduation.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Guide and manage approval processes through SUNY and NYSED.
  • Lead ARC‑PA accreditation processes and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Prepare accreditation documentation and remain informed on standards.

Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Development

  • Recruit qualified, diverse faculty and staff.
  • Supervise and mentor principal faculty, instructional faculty, and program staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive academic culture.
  • Encourage scholarly activity without making it a primary promotion driver.

Student Recruitment and Success

  • Direct the admissions process to attract a qualified, diverse student body.
  • Support student academic advising, mentoring, and wellness.
  • Teach in areas of expertise.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

  • Build partnerships with Bassett Healthcare Network and other clinical affiliates and healthcare organizations.
  • Represent and advocate for the program locally and nationally.
  • Seek philanthropic and grant support.

Salary: $130,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness qualifying employer. For benefits information, see Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ARC‑PA‑accredited PA program.
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a PA in New York State.
  • At least three years of clinical experience as a PA.
  • Minimum of two years of academic experience in a PA or health‑care‑related program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (e.g., DMSc, DHSc, PhD, EdD, MD, DO).
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Over three years of academic leadership or teaching in PA or health‑profession education.
  • Knowledge of rural/underserved healthcare delivery.
  • Ability to build and sustain clinical and community partnerships.
  • Familiarity with ARC‑PA standards and program development.
  • Experience with state or federal grants (e.g., HRSA, SAMHSA).
  • Strong leadership, team‑building, and strategic planning skills.
