Physician Assistant- Palliative Care Fellowship
Job Summary
This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Essential Functions
- Takes complex medical histories on patients referred forconsultation by academic and community physicians.
- Performs physical examinations.
- Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies andother diagnostic procedures.
- Orders and supervises the administration of bloodproducts.
- Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and otherconditions.
- Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attendingphysician to provide optimal patient medical management.
- Participates in continuing medical education to includespecialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards andconferences.
- Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
- Orders consultations and interacts with members of otherspecialty medical teams.
- Participates in special projects and committee functions.

- Ability to provide care appropriate to the populationserved.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide careappropriate to the age of the patients served on his or herassigned unit.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growthand development and the ability to assess data regarding thepatient's status and provide care as described in the department'spolicies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from theState of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through theUniversity of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to beobtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by yourdepartment or by privileging criteria.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associatedrequirements. The Division of General Internal Medicine of the University ofUtah's School of Medicine is looking for passionate candidates whoare interested in caring for patients with serious illness to enteran Advance Practice Clinician Palliative Care and HospiceFellowship. The fellowship is a one-year opportunity forcomprehensive training at the provider level in palliative care andhospice. The fellowship will broaden and strengthen knowledge andwill help develop an analytical and systematic approach indiagnosing and caring for adults with serious illness.
The fellow will rotate with the inpatient palliative care teams atthe University Hospital and the Huntsman Cancer Hospital,experience hospice and palliative care in rural areas, hospicecare, home-based palliative care, with an emphasis on mental andbehavioral health training. Our goal is to build confidentproviders, with effective communication skills, capable ofadvancing to take on full responsibility and autonomy in patientcare.
