Job Summary

University Health Services is hiring an experienced Physician Assistant to join our team in a primary care–focused role providing care to UW–Madison students in a collaborative, team-based setting. This 0.8 FTE (32 hours/week) position supports our mission to promote, protect, and improve student health and well‑being.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • Develops, implements, collects data, and evaluates health care services as directed by individual care plans
  • Develops individualized care plans based on medical assessments in accordance with medical best practices and established rules and regulations
  • Educates patients and their support systems on how to manage conditions and to promote the health and well‑being of patients and those around them
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats illnesses, and manages chronic health problems

Compensation

The starting salary is $95,824.00 and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurance and savings accounts; retirement benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a physician assistant
  • Experience providing clinical assessment and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Urgent Care settings
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current Wisconsin Physician Assistant license or eligibility to obtain prior to start date
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college students or young adults, with sensitivity to a diverse student population
  • Experience evaluating and treating musculoskeletal injuries
  • Experience performing in‑office procedures (e.g., cryotherapy, incision and drainage, ingrown toenail removal, laceration repair) or willingness to learn
  • Experience providing gender‑affirming care

Education

Bachelor's degree required. Master’s preferred.

Employment Requirements

This position is a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations; the selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years. Employment may require a criminal background check and reference verification regarding misconduct, including sexual violence and sexual harassment.
