Primary Functions & Responsibilities
Key areas of focus for the Physician Assistant include clinical care, care coordination, preoperative responsibilities, and clinical support.
Clinical Care
- Perform physical examinations, obtain medical histories, and document patient information
- Develop and implement treatment plans for new and established patients
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies as appropriate
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and medications
- Consult with physicians as needed to assess patient condition and care plans
Care Coordination
- Provide ongoing monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits
- Deliver follow‑up care in accordance with practice guidelines
- Ensure medical records and administrative documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner
Preoperative & Perioperative Responsibilities
- Perform preoperative assessments and confirm completion of required documentation
- Evaluate patients for compliance with admission and procedural requirements
- Confirm that medical clearance and diagnostic testing are completed and documented
- Notify the Medical Director or physician if a patient does not meet criteria for outpatient procedures
- Educate patients and families on the perioperative process and expectations
- Assist with surgical scheduling as needed
Clinical Support & Compliance
- Perform duties within the scope of privileges approved by the governing body
- Document physician orders and ensure proper execution of care plans
- Administer medications and monitor patients in accordance with facility policy
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative activities
- Support medical and administrative staff as neededParticipate in patient rounding when required
- Travel between locations as needed

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program; Current Virginia PA licensure (or eligibility); NCCPA certification required; Prior orthopedic or surgical experience preferred. PRM123.
