Overview
At OrthoCarolina, the Physician Assistant (PA) will work with one of our orthopedic providers at the Huntersville office. The PA is responsible for providing medical care as delegated by our orthopedic surgeons, performing a variety of clinical, procedure‑based, and surgical‑assisting duties.

Responsibilities
- Assist the physician in both office and hospital settings.
- Conduct independent clinic visits for patients with orthopedic injuries and illnesses.
- Assist in the operating room as needed and serve as assist‑at‑surgery for orthopedic procedures.
- Provide emergency room and floor consultations.
- Manage patient care plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Essential Functions
- Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile medical data.
- Administer or order diagnostic tests such as X‑ray, EKG, and laboratory studies and interpret results collaboratively with staff.
- Perform therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
- Apply, remove, and assess orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.
- Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, apply codes and charges, and assist in continuity of care.
- Dictate patient records—including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations, and office visit notes.
- Use computer systems to access and enter necessary data, and round on hospital inpatients as directed by supervising physicians.
Skills and Abilities
- Accurately evaluate patient problems in person or via phone and provide appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
- Skill in evaluating and revising care plans based on patient changes.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an AMA‑accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current North Carolina PA license and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Prior experience in orthopedics preferred but not required.
- Prior experience as a Physician Assistant preferred but not required.
