- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care under physician supervision
- Examine, diagnose, and determine treatment for patients
- Analyze and interpret x-rays and laboratory results
- Write prescriptions and take patient histories
- Provide surgical assistance and order therapies
- Practice in inpatient and outpatient settings, independently under a physician license or as part of a treatment team
- Participate in independent and interdisciplinary rounds
- Coordinate patient care among providers and ancillary clinicians
- Respond to patient questions, clinical issues, and emergencies
- Perform diagnosis, prescriptive authority, treatment, health assessments, interventions, and evaluation of outcomes
- Review medications and test reports and respond to critical results

- Support financial targets through timely documentation, efficiency, and reduced length of stay
- Lead or participate in quality, safety, innovation, research, presentation, publication, committee, and hospital projects
- Serve as clinical resource, consultant, patient advocate, preceptor, and coach
- Collaborate with physicians and interprofessional teams to manage patient care
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program
- One year of clinical experience
- Current Texas Physician Assistant state licensure
- PA-C certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- DEA narcotics license, required within 6 months
- English speaking, reading, and writing proficiency
- Clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work autonomously under applicable physician assistant board requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, families, and coworkers
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and exercise judgment in clinical interactions
