Physician Assistant/ Gastroenterologist

Job Summary

The Hospitalist Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will deliver primary health care in the hospital setting to include, but not limited to, the recognition and management of common illnesses and injuries, and the provisioning of care across the health care continuum with emphasis on early detection, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Essential Functions

• Obtains & records patient history.
• Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement and develops, implements, and periodically reviews the collaborative agreement in the specific clinical area.
• Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies.
• Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner.
• Performs physical and medical screening examinations.
• Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards.
• Adequately manages patient flow in the Emergency Department.
• Completes required courses, i.e., HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements.
• Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies, or other therapies as appropriate.
• Actively participates in staff meetings and risk‑management education.
• Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources.
• Functions as House Provider (responds to all RRT‘s and leads ACLS/Codes).
• Participates as member of the CWHMC CODE committee.
• Establishes diagnostic decision‑making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications and additional therapeutic modalities.
• Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician.
• Coordinates patient care with other members of the health‑care team; initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide comprehensive patient management.
• Provides acute/primary health care in accordance with written policies approved by nursing and medical administration.
• Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion, not less than every three months.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Physician Assistant:

• Physician Assistant Certification.
• Registration & licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners / Physician Assistant Advisory Board.

OR

• Master’s degree in Nursing.
• NP Certification.
• Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license, CDS, and DEA.
• Prior work experience as a professional nurse.
• 2 years of experience in Critical Care (preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certifications by AHA.
• Active membership in a professional organization (preferred).
• Ability and willingness to accommodate scheduling needs, including working extended hours, weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge And Skills

• Medical and broad‑based clinical emergency medicine knowledge.
• Ability to work with all emergency department and hospital employees effectively and successfully.

Standard Shift

• Day shift.
• Night shift.
• Work location: One location.

Functional/Technical Skills Requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of operational health‑care delivery systems and the current health‑care landscape; skill and experience with the operational aspects of health‑care technology deployment; familiarity and comfort with technology‑based operational improvement.
• Communications: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to take abstract, complex, and/or technical information and explain it for a variety of audiences in a meaningful way.
