POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal Faculty member, as a full-time faculty instructor inthe Physician Assistant Program, is primarily responsible forcourse instruction and/or course coordination in the didacticand/or clinical phase of the program. It is expected that aPrincipal Faculty will be effective in the areas of course design,course delivery, and evaluation. The Principal Faculty isinstrumental in assisting the program to ensure that studentsconsistently meet the program’s student learning outcomes toachieve competencies required for PA practice. The PrincipalFaculty is guided by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Educationand the Program Director in assisting the program with curriculumassessment and meeting the ARC-PA Accreditation Standards. ThePrincipal Faculty (full-time) is a member of the faculty (rankcommensurate with experience) with the Physician AssistantProgram.
The Principal Faculty member must assure that the South Universityphilosophy is considered in carrying out the duties andresponsibilities of this position, which includes quality servicesto clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition ofemployees; sound economic principles; and maintenance of anenvironment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking,and expansion.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
- Provides teachingand instruction in the PA program including:
- Coordination and instruction of courses as dictated by theneeds of the program.
- Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professionalexpertise.
- Providing academic advising as a small group facilitator andstudent advisor.
- Assists the Director of Didactic Education in the administrativecoordination of the didactic phase of the program.
- Assists the Director of Clinical Education in theadministrative coordination of the clinical phase of theprogram.
- Assists with curriculum development, which includes the designand implementation of the curriculum.
- Assists with ongoing curriculum evaluation andimprovement.
- Performs student evaluations of objective structured clinicalexaminations (OSCEs), lab practicals, as well as clinicalreasoning, problem-solving, and technical skills sessions duringthe didactic and clinical phases of the program.
- Evaluates student performance of submitted assignments,including written clinical documentation, evidence-based medicineresearch, and health literacy projects.
- Creates examinations for courses and maps exam questions toARC-PA Accreditation Standards and the NCCPA ContentBlueprint.
- Provides input to assist with accreditation activities, as wellas ongoing program evaluation and mission statement review.
- Participates in the program's admissions process to includeopen houses, student evaluation (through application review andcandidate interviews), and student selection meetings.
- Engages in service, community and campus relations, PACmeetings, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role of aPrincipal Faculty (full-time) member.
- Participates in faculty development opportunities each year asrequired in the areas of teaching and academic administration.
- Assists with clinical site development and clinical sitemonitoring.
- Provides remedial instruction as needed.
- Assists with o ther responsibilities as determined by theDirectors of Didactic/Clinical Education, P r ogram Director,and/or the Campus Leadership.
- P erforms duties as assigned and outlined in the faculty jobdescription and in accordance with the provisions of FacultySupplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge:
- Graduation from an accredited PA program.
- Terminal degree as a Physician Assistant.
- Current or emeritus NCCPA certification.
- PAs with active certification must be eligible for statelicensure or hold an active, valid, and unencumbered state licensein the state where they are assigned.
- 1-2 years teaching experience in a graduate health-relatedprofession highly preferred.
- 2 years of clinical experience required.
- Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills with student, faculty, and staffpopulations.
- Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivationskills.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, ExamSoft,and WebAdMIT.
Abilities:

- A bility to read, understand, interpret, and implementaccreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
- A bility to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees,students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic orbusiness community.

- Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiplepriorities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meetdeadlines.
