  • Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered care associated with MRI diagnostic services
  • Perform patient assessments, including review of medical history, allergies, medications, laboratory results, and contraindications
  • Verify referring clinician orders and relevant clinical information
  • Perform arthrograms and associated image-guided procedures within approved scope, competency, and site-specific privileges
  • Administer contrast media and other medications according to laws, protocols, delegated authority, and company policies
  • Obtain and document informed consent
  • Provide pre- and post-procedure assessment, education, instructions, and follow-up
  • Monitor patients and respond to adverse reactions, complications, and medical emergencies
  • Collaborate with supervising radiologists, MRI technologists, and clinical team members
  • Accurately document assessments, procedures, medications, contrast administration, and other clinical information
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, medication safety, contrast safety, radiation safety, patient identification, and other clinical standards
  • Communicate and elevate clinical concerns to supervising radiologists
  • Maintain competencies, credentials, continuing education, and site-specific privileges
  • Travel between designated Shields MRI locations based on operational and patient-care needs
  • Perform other related clinical duties within authorized scope of practice

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher as required for Massachusetts Physician Assistant licensure
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required based on Shields Health policy
  • Must meet all Shields Health credentialing and privileging requirements applicable to the position
  • For fluoroscopy-guided arthrograms or other fluoroscopic procedures: must meet Massachusetts requirements for Physician Assistants authorized to operate fluoroscopic X-ray systems and perform fluoroscopic procedures, or successfully complete required training, examination, and authorization prior to independently performing such procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing arthrograms and related image-guided procedures
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical history-taking skills
  • Knowledge of contrast media, including appropriate use, contraindications, precautions, and management of adverse reactions
  • Understanding of MRI safety principles and screening requirements
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and fluoroscopy practices when performing fluoroscopy-guided procedures
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, and procedural safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-centered bedside manner
  • Strong attention to detail, clinical judgment, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently within established clinical privileges while collaborating effectively with supervising radiologists, MRI technologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Understanding of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and healthcare compliance requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel among assigned Shields Health locations based on staffing and operational needs
