Physician Adult Psychiatry

Job Summary

A psychiatrist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental, addictive and emotional disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance‑related disorders, sexual disorders, gender dysphoria and adjustment disorders. The psychiatrist is able to understand the biological, psychological and social components of illness and, therefore, is uniquely prepared to treat the whole person. The main form of treatment used by a psychiatrist is psychopharmacology. A psychiatrist is qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests, prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychological and interpersonal problems, and intervene with families coping with stress, crises and other life challenges.

Job Duties

• Interview patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.
• Perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
• Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illnesses.
• Prescribe or administer medications.
• Prepare, maintain, and review records that include patients’ histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
• Work in a clinical and office environment.
• Accountable for satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (required)
• License: Licensed Medical Doctor in the State of Pennsylvania
• Skills: Patient Care, Procedural Skills, Professional Etiquette, Systems‑Based Practice
