Physical Therapy Assistant - Full Time

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate's degree in physical therapy from an accredited educational program.
• Active Alaska State license or eligibility to obtain Alaska PTA license prior to start.
• Experience working under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in inpatient and/or outpatient hospital settings.
• Familiarity with APTA standards and Alaska Board of Physical Therapy practice principles.
• Ability to perform PTA treatments across the lifespan, for acute, post-acute, and outpatient populations.
• Competence documenting patient encounters, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in an electronic health record.
• Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, arranging durable medical equipment, and supporting discharge planning.
• Willingness to perform occasional multi-day travel to remote locations by boat or small plane and to deliver community-based care, home assessments, and telehealth services as needed.
• BLS Certification from AHA or ARC may be required prior to or upon hire.
• Ability to direct and train support staff, students, or interns in daily clinical duties as a lead-level contributor.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

• Provide PTA treatments based on the Physical Therapist's plan of care for in-patient and out-patient hospital rehabilitation services.
• Implement selected components of interventions, obtain data related to interventions, and modify interventions as directed to progress patients or ensure safety.
• Review clinical records and participate in care conferences, rounds, and interdisciplinary communication.
• Document patient findings and treatments according to hospital policy and payer requirements, including Medicare and Medicaid billing practices.
• Educate patients and families with home exercise programs and strategies to promote self-care and independence. Validate understanding through return demonstration.
• Assist with acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
• Participate in community outreach, school-based clinics, senior centers, and health promotion events. Provide telehealth services when appropriate.
• Adhere to confidentiality, quality assurance, and regulatory standards. Participate in SEARHC SQM functions and department in-services.
• Perform other duties as assigned and serve as a lead person when required to assign, check, train, and schedule support staff.

Work Setting and Schedule:

• Hospital Rehabilitation Services department with both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.
• Days shift. Full-time schedule.
• Occasional community-based and remote travel, possible exposure to inclement weather and small-aircraft or boat transport.
