Physical Sciences Research Assistant

Role Overview

Apply physical sciences expertise to create high-quality training and evaluation materials that help next-generation AI systems learn, reason, and perform. This remote contract role focuses on real-world experimental analysis, computational modeling, and technical reasoning. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and write advanced physical sciences evaluation tasks covering experimental analysis, computational modeling, and technical reasoning.
• Source, synthesize, and curate research artifacts, including CSV datasets, spreadsheets, computational results, and scientific references.
• Create realistic technical scenarios and problem statements that reflect complex real-world challenges rather than simplified textbook examples.
• Define rigorous methodologies and quantitative solutions for each task.
• Develop detailed grading rubrics with 35 or more items to assess technical rigor, numerical accuracy, interpretation quality, and adherence to scientific protocols.
• Document protocols and experimental reasoning clearly to support reproducibility and consistent rubric application.
• Work with project leads to maintain methodological integrity and benchmark relevance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field.
• At least 2 years of hands-on research experience or applied technical project work in a physical sciences domain.
• Strong methodological rigor, experimental reasoning, quantitative analysis, technical documentation, and protocol and rubric fidelity.
• Ability to clearly document complex technical procedures and results in professional written English.
• Experience creating or evaluating scientific rubrics or assessments is preferred.
• Familiarity with large volumes of technical data and document formats such as PDFs and spreadsheets.

Work Terms

• Remote, independent contractor engagement.
• Work is output-based and paid for tasks that meet project specifications. Completion time varies by experience and workflow.
• Minimum submission requirements apply, including a minimum number of tasks submitted each week.
• Roles are typically filled within 48 hours. Selected candidates should be prepared to begin their first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after completing onboarding.

Compensation

$30 to $50 per hour.
