Primary Purpose:

Qualifications:
Education & Licensure
- A valid Oregon teaching license with a Physical Education endorsement is required for final selection; the Board will also consider candidates with the equivalent, or with documented eligibility in progress
- Licensure and qualifications will be verified prior to final selection
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Health and Physical Education, or a closely related field
- Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire, is preferred
- Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance required prior to employment
- Experience teaching physical education, preferably in an elementary or K 8 setting, is preferred
- New and early-career educators who meet the licensure requirements are encouraged to apply
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-aligned physical education lessons for students in grades K 8 that are developmentally appropriate and engaging
- Align instruction with Oregon physical education content standards and national SHAPE America standards, promoting motor skills, movement concepts, fitness, and personal and social responsibility
- Differentiate instruction and adapt activities to meet the needs of all learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and diverse physical abilities
- Integrate health, wellness, sportsmanship, and social-emotional learning concepts into daily instruction
- Select, organize, and sequence age-appropriate games, sports, and movement activities that build skills progressively across grade levels
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning climate in the gymnasium, on the field, and in all activity spaces
- Instruct and consistently enforce safety rules, proper use of equipment, and appropriate procedures to minimize risk of injury
- Supervise students at all times during class and respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, and emergencies in accordance with school policy
- Model and promote respect, inclusion, effort, and positive behavior consistent with OTA's schoolwide expectations (PBIS)
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations for conduct and participation
- Assess student progress using appropriate formative and summative measures, including fitness and skill assessments, and maintain accurate records
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to families and staff
- Communicate professionally and regularly with parents, colleagues, and the School Director regarding student learning, behavior, and program activities
- Select, request, organize, and maintain physical education equipment and supplies within approved budget parameters, and conduct regular inventory and safety checks
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe activity spaces and report facility or equipment concerns promptly
- Support and, where appropriate, help coordinate schoolwide health, movement, and enrichment activities such as field days, fitness events, and intramural opportunities
- Comply with all OTA policies, the OTA Charter Contract, Oregon Department of Education requirements, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, Professional Learning Communities (PLC), and required training
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information consistent with FERPA and Board policy
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director consistent with the responsibilities of the position
- Knowledge of age-appropriate physical education curriculum, motor development, fitness concepts, and effective instructional and classroom management strategies
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and well-organized lessons for a wide range of ages and abilities
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills in active, large-group settings
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Commitment to student safety, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to organize equipment, records, and activities efficiently
