Summary:
The primary role of a bilingual blood-drawer is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, training, and proposing workflow suggestions.
Position Responsibilities:
Skills in blood extractions, marking samples, spinning samples, documenting maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient details, etc.
Gathers and preserves samples in line with established procedures.
Clearly and courteously explains the process of blood extraction and other specimen collection, as needed.
Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Completely comprehends all physician instructions.
Matches lab requisition forms to sample tubes, labels, spins, separates, and freezes samples as per test orders.
Verifies all test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
Packs samples for delivery.
Stores samples at appropriate temperatures, places in suitable containers, labels accurately, and follows specific transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Follows OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual departmental trainings.
Responds to phone calls, reads lab results to address inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some regions.
At least 6 months of experience conducting venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
At least 2 years of experience.
