Phlebotomy Technician
Pay Range: $20.02hr - $21.20hr
Requirement/Must Have:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination.
- Update patient information accurately.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure full understanding of physician orders.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and appropriate collection containers.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Assist in troubleshooting, training, and making work flow recommendations.
