Phlebotomist II
Position Type: Contract (4+ Months) Location: Roanoke, VA 24018 Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (30-minute lunch) Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to provide high-quality specimen collection services in a professional healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will perform venipuncture and specimen processing while delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring compliance with established laboratory procedures and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and specimen collection for patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
- Process, label, prepare, and transport specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
- Verify patient identity and demographic information before specimen collection.
- Obtain patient initials/signatures after venipuncture to confirm specimen labeling accuracy.
- Maintain accurate documentation and required records.
- Follow all quality assurance, safety, infection control, and confidentiality guidelines.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
- Provide excellent customer service while creating a positive patient experience.
- Support specimen collection at Patient Service Centers (PSC), physician offices, or other assigned locations.
- Travel between multiple locations as needed with minimal notice.
- Perform daily duties independently while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience, including:
- Venipuncture
- Pediatric collections
- Geriatric collections
- Capillary collections
- Strong specimen processing and labeling experience.
- Excellent patient interaction and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Medical Assistant or Paramedic training.
Phlebotomy certification (required only where mandated by state law).
Two (2) years of Patient Service Center (PSC) experience.
Customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service environment.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments when required.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if applicable).
Willingness to travel between multiple collection sites.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all company policies and procedures.
