Job Summary
The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring accuracy, patient safety, and compliance with laboratory procedures. This role includes specimen processing, documentation, and providing excellent patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect blood and other specimens (urine, fecal, etc.) following established procedures.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to test requirements.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions and specimen labels for accuracy.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by following appropriate storage and transportation procedures.
  • Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination.
  • Update patient information accurately in the system.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Understand and follow physicians' orders and testing protocols.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Participate in annual departmental training.
  • Answer phone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Atleast 3 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (where required by state regulations).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with glucose testing.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume patient care environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
