Phlebotomy Technician
Pay Range: $20.41hr - $21.70hr
Requirement/Must Have:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
- Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
- Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination.
- Update patient information and maintain accurate records.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and follow all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature and protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
