Phlebotomist

The primary function of the Phlebotomist is to work with the MLS/MT in various areas of the Laboratory, registering patients, collecting samples, and assessing the acceptability of samples for testing.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Follows laboratory policies and procedures for specimen collection, handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Adhere to the lab's QC policies, document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
• Follow the lab's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the lab's defined acceptable levels of performance.
• Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the lab manager/chief technologist.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the lab's established performance specifications.

Education/Qualifications/Experience:

• Must have a phlebotomy license from the state of Louisiana.
• At least one (2-3) years medical laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic preferred.
• Must have at least 2 -3 years phlebotomy experience.
• BLS Certification upon hire.
