Volunteer Opportunity with the City of Philadelphia:

71% of Fourth Graders in Philadelphia are reading below their grade level. Be apart of the change with Philly Reading Coaches (PRC).

PRC is an early literacy initiative through the City of Philadelphia's Office of Children and Families that connects volunteers with K–3 students to strengthen foundational reading skills and foster a lifelong love of reading.

As a Reading Coach, you'll meet one-on-one with an elementary school student after school each week to read together, build confidence, and create a positive mentoring relationship. No teaching experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Meet with your K–3 student for 1–2 hours per week during the school year at a designated elementary school.
• Encourage reading confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
• Build a positive, supportive mentoring relationship.
• Participate in a brief volunteer orientation and complete all required clearances before beginning.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older .
• No prior experience teaching, tutoring, etc. needed.
