As a Phenotyping Specialist, you will serve as a key member of the Johnston Research Center functional leadership team, providing leadership and operational execution for phenotyping, biotechnology, regulatory, and research operations activities. This role combines scientific collaboration, people leadership, operational planning, regulatory stewardship, and field execution to ensure successful delivery of research objectives across multiple crops and functional areas.**What You'll Do**: **Phenotyping & Scientist Partnership*** Serve as the primary phenotyping contact for trait scientists and research stakeholders.* Lead mapping activities, protocol reviews, trait definition alignment, and scientist touchpoints throughout the season.* Collaborate closely with scientists to understand research objectives and ensure successful field execution of experiments.* Translate research protocols and trial requirements into operational plans for field teams.**Field Operations & Research Execution*** Provide leadership and support for planting, phenotyping, and harvest operations.* Operate and coordinate research equipment during critical planting and harvest periods.* Lead seed split and bulk inventory management processes to ensure research material availability.* Coordinate resources and prioritize activities to meet agronomic and research deadlines.**Data Quality & Stewardship*** Own post-plant and post-harvest data quality processes for regulated and stewarded trials.* Drive data accuracy, completeness, and integrity through routine reviews and corrective actions.* Partner with scientists and operational teams to resolve data quality issues and improve research outcomes.**People Leadership*** Directly supervise and develop employees, seasonal assistants, and contingent workforce personnel.* Foster a safe, productive, and inclusive work environment while developing future leaders within the organization.**Regulatory & Compliance Leadership*** Serve as the primary regulated research contact* Lead, develop and maintain regulatory maps, GPS documentation, planting records, inspection records, clean out documentation, and compliance reports.* Support and coordinate USDA, CAMS, and other regulatory audits.* Ensure research activities comply with applicable stewardship, regulatory, and quality requirements.**CAMS & Quality Systems Ownership*** Act as a Local Assessment Owner supporting CAMS compliance requirements.* Maintain record retention systems and documentation standards.* Coordinate incident response activities and corrective action implementation.* Support CPR processes and continuous improvement initiatives related to compliance and quality systems.**Research Center Collaboration*** Participate as a multifunctional team member supporting Biotech, Seed Product Development, Research Seed Production, and other station priorities.* Partner across Johnston functional teams to ensure efficient use of resources and successful execution of research programs.* Support seasonal operational needs including seed preparation, winter nursery activities, research center projects, and other critical business priorities.**Leadership Expectations*** Demonstrate strong people leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.* Drive accountability for safety, quality, compliance, and operational excellence.* Influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver successful research outcomes.* Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement solutions that enhance efficiency, quality, and customer experience.**What You Need:*** Education: Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Agronomy, or a related field is required.* Experience: 3+ years of people leader experience is preferred* Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and the capacity to learn new technologies and software. Handling large volumes of data will be required.* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.* Results Driven: Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving.
