Job Overview

Pharmacy Manager Local Specialty – Bakersfield, CA (Walgreens). Responsible for managing pharmacy department operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company policies, and delivering high‑quality patient service.

Responsibilities

• Provide pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients regarding medication usage and drug interactions.
• Manage department workflow, continuous quality improvement, pharmacy sales, expense control, and inventory management.
• Ensure accurate prescription filling and uphold pharmacy image through excellent patient service and adherence to policies.
• Deliver a distinctive patient experience using Walgreens service traits such as curiosity, inclusivity, and empathy.
• Respond promptly to patient inquiries, complaints, and prescription errors; report incidents per company procedures.
• Maintain inventory reporting for limited distribution drugs (daily, weekly, monthly) and comply with federal, state, and company regulations.
• Implement asset protection controls, housekeeping, and pharmacy system maintenance.
• Control cash management, including electronic register, cash accounts, and daily cash reports.
• Coordinate daily pharmacy schedule, staffing, and budgeting for pharmacy hours.
• Prepare and file required reports for company and government agencies.
• Develop and execute strategies to grow specialty pharmacy business, including collaboration with health systems and third‑party prescription initiatives.
• Build and maintain a positive team culture, conduct performance management, and enforce disciplinary procedures per policy.
• Ensure proper licensure and training of all pharmacy personnel, emphasizing payer and pharmaceutical contractual requirements.
• Develop employees through orientation, training, and performance audits.
• Maintain relationships with physicians, health professionals, and stakeholders to drive business growth.

External Basic Qualifications

• BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution.
• Current pharmacist license in California.
• At least 1 year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, verification, records, legal compliance, operations, software, and insurance.
• Strong knowledge of controlled substance laws.
• Specialized training or practical experience in disease states such as HIV, Organ Transplant, or Oncology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Supervisory experience managing pharmacy staff at a local specialty pharmacy.
• Leadership rating of at least 3.7 on the most recent performance review.
• Minimum 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreens.

Compensation

Salary range: $128,310 - $188,370, based on location, experience, education, and other factors.
