Position Summary

Directs, manages and oversees Pharmacy assign programs, activities and operations. Ensures adherence to established policies and procedures. Prepares and presents in-service educational programs to medical and pharmacy staff. Patient care assignment may include: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
  • QUALITY - Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure continued quality of care
  • QUALITY - Monitor and evaluate the efficiency of department programs and activities; identifies and recommends areas of improvement
  • SUPPLY - Assist in coordinating the annual hospital drug bids
  • SUPPLY - Maintain invoices and purchase orders; ensure prompt payment by utilizing discount offers
  • PROJECTS - Establish and monitor investigational drug projects
  • REPORTS - Prepare and maintain a variety of reports; analyze and interpret reports as required; identify and recommend areas of improvement through data research and statistical analysis
  • PATIENT SERVICES - Ensure pharmacy services are provided in a timely manner consistent with patient needs
  • COORDINATION - Coordinate pharmaceutical services functions within pharmacy to include drug distribution, purchasing and procurement activities in a cost-effective manner
  • PATIENT CARE - Develop, implement and monitor clinical pharmacy programs to include Medication Usage Evaluation (MUE) programs
  • DOCUMENTATION - Prepare monographs for drugs going the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • SUPERVISION - Coordinate clinical clerkship rotations for pharmacy students
  • PATIENT CARE - Manage formulary and non-formulary drug approvals and criteria enforcement
  • DOCUMENTATION - Prepare, publish and distribute Pharmacy and Therapeutics newsletter
  • COMMUNICATION - Develop and submit proposals and articles; conduct presentations at educational and research meetings
  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'

  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • Pharmacist License in New Mexico

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • PALS

Physical Conditions

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Essential Working Conditions

  • Minor Hazard - physical risks, dirt, dust, fumes, noise
  • Subject to an annual contract and performance appraisal
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
