Overview
Interprets medication orders, compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with the legal, ethical, regulatory, and professional standards of pharmacy practice.
Responsibilities
* Dispenses medications and pharmaceuticals, including controlled substances, in compliance with department and hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and professional standards; maintains the appropriate records.
* Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of parenteral medications.
* Fills and/or checks unit dose carts.
* Fills and/or supervises the preparation of newly ordered medications.
* Assists the Director of Pharmacy in coordinating and implementing the activities of the Pharmacy.
* Supervises the technical support staff.
* Assists with clinical, quality management, and education programs. Consults with and advises medical and nursing staffs on matters related to drugs and drug products; documents the outcomes of the consultations of the Intervention Log.
* Maintains and reviews patient medication profiles and ensures confidentiality of patient information.
* Provides drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
* Monitors profile for drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, and appropriate drug therapy and duration.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy and licensed in the State of Alabama.
* Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
* Must be able to transport and/or lift an object intermittently throughout the workday up to a maximum of 20 pounds.
* Must be able to walk, stand, and work for extended periods of time without relief.
* Must possess dexterity of arms, hands, and fingers bilaterally.
* Must be able to work with hands for up to 12 hours a day.
* Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
* Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
