Performance Tools TechnicianThe performance tools technician is responsible for the installation, training, and on-site support of NDS software solutions that are deployed at the rig via PLC controls and instrumentation systems. While on rotation the technician will travel to rigs to survey equipment and determine the compatibility of our solutions and estimated timelines for installation. The technician will also work closely with the development team to troubleshoot specific issues that arise and when deemed necessary, debug code and/or machinery to provide a solution back to the rig.
Individual must be a team player, capable of handling support calls in highly stressful situations. The position will require travel across all operating Nabors districts.ResponsibilitiesInstall hardware and software required to deploy NDS services on drilling rigs including SmartROS, RTXT, RigCloud LiteSurvey rigs to understand equipment requirements for integrationTroubleshoot remotely and on location when system is down or malfunctioningTrain customers and other rig personnel how to properly use software to improve drilling performanceTrain rig personnel how to maintain equipment to maximize up timeContribute to the development of best practices/standardsWork directly with engineering to develop new products and resolve existing engineering issuesDocument common troubleshooting problemsRotational on-call point of escalationMentor the junior level techniciansQualifications5 years' electrical / oil and gas industry experienceAdvanced understanding of electrical systems and wiringAbility to read electrical schematics and ladder diagramsExperience viewing and editing PLC programsUnderstanding of VFDs and SCRsFamiliarity with flashing VFD firmware and changing parametersVersed in windows software, a good understanding of networking, electronicsFamiliarity with popular HMI systemsAdvanced understanding of TD systemsUnderstanding of encoders / troubleshooting encoder circuitMust be able to work rotational shifts & travel (domestic/international)Preferred QualificationsExperience working on Canrig, Tesco, NOV top drivesExperience with RigCLOUD, Pason, Totco instrumentation systemsExperience with configuration and imaging of servers or virtual machinesFamiliarity with popular fieldbus standards, especially Modbus and ProfibusFamiliarity with EtherNet/IP, OPC, or other process control communications protocolsExperience troubleshooting fiber-optic communicationsExperience with AB/Siemens/Omron technologyEssential Skills / Physical Requirements / Working ConditionsFrequent assent/decent of stairs/steps, especially at field locations.
