Per Diem Surgical Physician Assistant – Vassar Brothers Medical Center (75 minutes north of New York City)

Overview

The Surgical PA Service at Vassar Brothers Medical Center seeks a board‑certified per diem Physician Assistant. This position offers a supportive, team‑based environment with exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties, including high‑acuity patients, complex procedures, and a high volume of DaVinci robotic surgery cases.

Responsibilities

• OR first assisting – case coverage includes General Surgery, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, GYN/GynOnc, Labor and Delivery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Head and Neck, Bariatric Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, and DaVinci Robotic Surgery.
• Rounding – surgical PAs round on general surgery and surgical oncology patients daily with attendings, residents, medical students, and PA students.
• Admissions/Consults – responsible for admissions and consults for patients in the emergency department and inpatient floors.
• Floor procedures – perform floor procedures such as NG tube and difficult Foley insertion, wound vac changes, and bedside I&D.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and NCCPA certified with strong surgical and patient management experience.
• Preference for 1–3 years of surgical experience and/or surgical residency training; new graduates and nurse practitioners with RNF certification and surgical experience are also considered.

Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination and finger dexterity.
